The RISE program was instituted in 1995 at five universities in Canada. The program has grown steadily over the years, and now involves 16 faculty members and students at 15 universities across Canada in addition to scientists at the National Research Council in Ottawa and the Xerox Research Centre of Canada in Mississauga.
